We want to help eliminate any fears you may have when it comes to using these millennial and gen-z dominated platforms – it’s actually a lot easier than you think. If you are interested in using Instagram but don’t know where to start, we have you covered. Here, we’ve crafted a super simple & easy guide that will teach you how to start posting on Instagram today.
1. Click the + icon on the bottom row
2. Choose a photo or video from your photos — or take one in the app
Instagram will let you choose any of the photos or videos you have saved on your device. Click the one you want to post. Alternatively, you can select “Photo” or “Video” at the bottom to take it within the Instagram app itself.
3. Edit the photo or add a filter
If editing terms like brightness, saturation and contrast drive you crazy, Instagram filters could be just what you need to take your photo to the next level. Select one of the 40+ filters that Instagram has to offer!
4. Write a caption
Later shares that, “A great Instagram caption will stop a scroller in their tracks — and the longer someone spends reading your caption and engaging with your post, the better your post will rank with the Instagram algorithm.”
5. Use Hashtags!
Instagram shares “You can add hashtags in the caption or comments of your post. If you have a public account and add hashtags to a post, the post will be visible on the corresponding hashtag page.” Watch Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of digital agency VaynerMedia, explain how to identify trending hashtags, tie in your content, and ride their wave of popularity here.
6. Tag people & add location
If you feature anyone in your post, be sure to tag them so they can see the photo or video as well. You can also include their handle in your caption by typing @, then their Instagram username. Also, be sure to add the location in your post. This will expose your post to more people in your area.
7. Share on Facebook & Twitter
Instagram gives you the option to share the same post to your connected Facebook and Twitter accounts within the Instagram app itself. Save some time by selecting the Facebook & Twitter option and let Instagram do the dirty work for you!
8. Share & Edit
When you have gone through all these steps, all you have to do next is click share in the top right corner. You will see your post upload and it will be available for everyone to interact with. If you notice any mistakes in the most, you can always edit the post by tapping the three small dots.
